Heritage glass stain is a wonderful medium to create faux stained glass designs on anything from bottles and jars to wine glasses – and of course flat sheets of glass (which can then be framed). It’s an easy and user-friendly alternative to classic stained glass techniques, which can take years to perfect.
How to create your own faux stained glass artwork:
Step 1: Clean your glass using acetone to ensure there is no grime or grease on the glass (which could prevent your stain from adhering)
Step 2: Create a design on a piece of paper and then lay the glass on top. Using an outliner like Heritage Liquid Lead, trace the outline of your image carefully. Set this aside until completely dry.

Step 3: Using a soft, synthetic brush carefully drop in the Heritage Glass Stain colours into the shapes created using the liquid lead. Spread the stain evenly within the borders to ensure an even coating. Leave to dry for at least 2 hours.

Step 4: Admire your completed masterpiece! It’s that simple.

Please note that the Glass stain has fairly strong fumes. Work in a well ventilated area and avoid contact with skin.

How long does it take for the glass stain to dry? Three days later and i find that mine isnt dry.
Hi Caitlin
That is very strange to hear that had happened to you. Usually it dries within a day of application.
Things that might trigger this occurrence might be that your surface was a bit damp before you started. This will cause the glass stain to not settle on your surface, because it can not dry completely. It might be a good thing to try to clean you surface with some spirits or thinners and to start again. This will prepare your surface for the glass stain. The Heritage glass stain is thinner-based, so it becomes a bit problematic when you add water to it.
Another idea might be to look at how old or new the glass stain is that you have. They tend to become quite tacky when they age and when you try to paint with it, it takes close to forever for it to dry. If this is the case, if helps when you mix either thinners or spirits to your mixture, this makes your glass stain more fluid and easier to paint with.

Where can I get the equipment from Natal south coast
Good day, I hope you can advise me. I have some Heritage glass stain paints and liquid lead that are several years old. Some have become dry by now. Is there any way to “revive” these products? Can I use a paint thinner or meths or is that a bad idea? Thanks
Hi Jennifer
You can try and revive some of the glass satins by adding a little acetone to the dried bottles. Acetone is similar to nail polish remover, but is unscented and acts as a solvent for the glass stain. You can get acetone from us or you can find it at most hardware stores.
The liquid lead hardens and is quite waterproof, you can try it with the solvent, but I suspect it wont be very effective.
Hope this helps and that you can rescue some of your glass stains. Otherwise, they are not too pricy if you need to replace them and we would be happy to ship to you!
Best,
Adam
