Iris Acrylic Paint Range

Introducing six amazing new colours to the Iris Artist Acrylic range. Chartreuse, Sage, Aquamarine, Blossom, Botanical Bliss and Floral Coral.

Iris Acrylic is an excellent heavy body paint! It has strong pigment strength and provides good coverage. The colours available are bright and saturated, but can easily be mixed to create a wide range of tints and hues.

It’s heavy-bodied, so it’s ideal for thick impasto techniques and for creating texture in your paintings. It can also be thinned down using water and various mediums to be used for glazing and fine detail. Iris Acrylics can be used on all manner of surfaces for both craft and art projects. When dry, the colours form a permanent film that is resistant to water, dirt and atmospheric pollution.

Kim Black’s new Iris Acrylics, her choice for vibrant and expressive creations ” Floral Coral: a great warm coral that gives my florals a glow. Botanical Bliss: a fresh blue that gives greens and darker blues a lift.” Says Kim.
Working with Iris is great as I use huge quantities and the consistency is great to move easily on my canvases. I also love them for my paper pieces. I either water the colours down for flicking purposes and I layer up to provide a thicker opaque look when needed.

  1. Please could you provide a chart of IRIS acrylic paints, showing which colours are opaque & translucent.

    Thank you

    1. Hi Melanie

Thanks for your message! You can view a colour chart at http://www.primeart.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/PRIMEART-IRIS-CHART.jpg. There are a few colours that aren’t represented here, and when the manufacturer uploads a new chart (which should be very soon), we will reply again to your message with the new link. In our experience though, most of the colours are opaque, with the exception of the glitters and the emerald green, as you can see on the chart.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you need any more assistance, and we’d be glad to help.

      Warm regards,
      The Deckle Edge Team

  2. Could you please add some information as to how they behave over time? Like if the tube of paint is a few years old, how does it perform when applied to primed canvas, or layered over other colours, how does the texture change and thicken, etc.

    1. Hi Emma-May

Acrylics in general are designed to dry quite fast. They were not meant to be kept for a very long time and they will deteriorate and become unpredictable in their application over time. Many factors, including how you store your acrylic paints, environmental conditions and the different colour pigments of each can affect how your acrylic paint ages.

You can however try and slow down your paints from changing consistency over time by storing them in a cool dry place, securing the lids and keeping them out of sunlight. Generally metal tubes are better at keeping your paints fresh for longer. The Iris plastic tubes will always try and bounce back and trap air inside your tubes. You can try and squeeze out any access air in your tubes to prevent oxidation inside your tubes while storing them.
