How to Use Gamblin 150ml Galkyd Gel
Mix with oil colour
Place your oil paint on the palette and add a small amount of Galkyd Gel. Start with a little and increase gradually until you reach the desired consistency. A typical starting ratio is about 10–20% medium to paint.
Adjust body and texture
Use a brush or palette knife to blend thoroughly. The gel will add body and help the paint hold brushstrokes and knife marks while improving flow.
Speed up drying time
Galkyd Gel significantly reduces drying time. Thin applications can become touch dry in approximately 24 hours, depending on colour, thickness and studio conditions.
Layer correctly
Follow the fat over lean principle. Use less medium in early layers and slightly more in subsequent layers to maintain flexibility and paint film integrity.
Enhance gloss and transparency
Add a little more gel when glazing to increase transparency and create depth with a subtle gloss finish.
Clean up
Clean brushes with odourless mineral spirits followed by soap and water.
Tip: Always mix Galkyd Gel into the paint rather than applying it directly onto the surface first, and avoid overusing it, as too much medium can cause wrinkling in thick applications.
