Apron Eco Printing Workshop (Sat 26 October 2024)

Join us for a hands-on eco-printing workshop with Sanet, where you’ll create your own unique cotton cross-back apron, designed to fit all shapes and sizes. Each apron will feature distinctive imprints from botanical leaves, making every piece one-of-a-kind. Throughout the day, you’ll learn various folding techniques, share special recipes, and explore the beauty of South African plant pigments. Bring along an old T-shirt to experiment with while waiting for your apron to finish printing. You’ll also receive the apron pattern and the recipe of the day to take home.

Time: 8.45 – 12.45pm (4 hours)

Recommended age: All welcome from 15 years and up.

What you will learn:

  • You will learn how to print eco style using natural pigments and plants on material.
  • See a Demonstration and receive your notes.
    In notes:
    Learn about natural pigments in plants
    What are in the leave, tannins, and acids 
    Identifying the leaves in your area
    What happen when combining them with different mordants, moisture and heat on fabric
    How to bundle the fabric 
    How to prepare the fabric for the process
    What type of fabric you can use. 

About the facilitator:

Sanet Visser facilitated printmaking workshops at Rupert Museum and Butterfly Art Project. 
She completed a 3-year course, with a diploma at Ruth Prowse School of Art, in Visual Arts. Major in Printmaking also receive training in Craft, design, fine art, photography, events.

Living out her passion facilitating art classes at Imibala Trust and De Hoop Primary school Somerset West. She Founded SA Art in 2004, working for the benefit of emerging visual artists. Saart was a finalist in the South African Nedbank Arts and Culture Trust Awards She was born on a farm and the characteristics of farming inspired her, it demands endurance, ploughing the earth, preparing it, hard work, patience, and expectation. She is influenced, as an artist, by people and their personal growth in life
