Assemblage Workshop with Cleo (5 Sept ’26)
Step into a world where collage expands beyond the page and takes shape in three dimensions. In this playful and exploratory assemblage workshop, we’ll challenge the traditional boundaries of collage by asking: Who says collage has to be flat? Participants will be invited to build intimate three-dimensional compositions using a curated selection of found objects, images, textures, and natural elements.
Each person will choose a small container — either a tin or a box — to transform into their own miniature world. The creative possibilities are wide open: Will you work only inside the container? Only outside? Across the lid and interior surfaces? Or allow the piece to spill beyond its edges? This workshop encourages curious, intuitive decision-making and celebrates the beauty of assembling unexpected materials into meaningful visual narratives.
Drawing inspiration from personal memories, themes that resonate, or simply from the intriguing assortment of objects provided, attendees will construct layered scenes that evoke mood, story, or symbolism. Assemblage offers a liberating process, blending collage, sculpture, and object-based play into a single expressive form.
Date: Saturday, 5 September 2026
Time: 9:30 – 12/12:30
Place: The Deckle Edge @ 13 Brickfield Road, Salt River
Capacity: Limited to 15 participants — booking essential
(all materials included)
(all materials included) but attendees are welcome to bring anything they make like to pay with- photos, small trinkets, foliage, fabric-anything!
- A choice of a tin or small box to create within
- Paper, scissors, tapes, glues, decorative papers.
- A selection of found images, printed materials, books, and collage papers as well as tins and small boxes to create final works.
- Adhesives, tapes, and structural attachment tools
- A variety of 3D objects such as:
shells, buttons, twigs, keys, small stones, fabric offcuts, beads, ribbons, and other curious treasures - Participants are welcome to bring any personal objects or images they may wish to incorporate.

Recommended age: All welcome from 14 years and up.

About the facilitatior:
My name is Chloe, nickname ‘Cleo’, and I am a visual artist and workshop instructor living and working in Cape Town, South Africa. I graduated with a BA (Fine Art) from Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2014 and completed my Masters in Visual Art through UNISA in 2021.
I have exhibited my work in various venues and galleries in Cape Town and abroad, including AVA Gallery, Youngblood Gallery, State of the Art Galley, Gallery ONE 11 and Art B Gallery, as well as Casa Petrarca, Figline Valdarno and Studio BONG in Florence, Italy, and at The Small Print Co. in London.
I regularly host cyanotype workshops, as well as other alternative photographic workshops such as Lumen, Phytogram and Polaroid Emulsion Lift workshops.
