Botanical Collage Workshop: Pick, Paste, and Play (4 May 2024

Join us for a creative morning of artistic play as we explore the fun and versatile medium of collage.
During this workshop, we’ll exchange ideas and immerse ourselves in the world of mixed media elements – ranging from magazine cutouts, vintage images, old photos, plant pressings, and newspaper clippings to textured surfaces, fabrics, self-made drawings, and paintings. Attendees will explore the amalgamation of these diverse elements in bold and graphic ways to create visually striking compositions. Collage will be examined not just as a means to craft final art pieces, but also as a productive technique to create mock-ups for upcoming works. Through collage, the avenues of creativity are limitless, providing a liberating approach to arranging visual concepts in unexpectedly innovative ways.
Collage can be perceived in various dimensions: as a playful extension of photography and the photographic image, as a method for blending different artistic processes such as drawing, printmaking, and painting, and even as a tool to overcome occasional artistic blocks. Having worked extensively with alternative photographic techniques, I’ve consistently gravitated towards incorporating collage in my creative planning. The process often becomes so enjoyable that collage elements organically integrate into my final pieces, infusing an additional layer of depth and creativity.
Participants are welcome to bring any images or materials to integrate, while a diverse range of media will also be provided during the workshop. Our exploration will encompass aspects of composition, theme, intention, and practical methodologies for shaping ultimate collages. Join us as we delve into the exciting world of collage creation!
