SOLD OUT: Cyanotype – Botanical Printing Workshop in Knysna (23 September 2023)
In this workshop, attendees will learn the basics of the alternative/historical photographic process of cyanotype printing. Dating back to the mid 1800’s, cyanotype is the process behind the term ‘blue print’ and is famed for its shades of blue, oftentimes used to capture botanical specimens. In this workshop, we will be playing with foliage to create beautiful botanical blueprints on paper.

- UV exposure units
- Applicator sponges
- Plants, foliage and objects
- Exposure frames and clips
- Rinsing trays
- Drying Line
- Scissors
Recommended age: All welcome from 15 years and up.
What you will learn:
This workshop will demonstrate the basics of sensitizing paper with light sensitive solution, exposing it to UV light and developing a final print. Attendees will then experiment with the different possibilities and outcomes by playing with different types of foliage, as well as other found objects.
About the facilitatior:
My name is Chloe, nickname ‘Cleo’, and I am a visual artist and workshop instructor living and working in Cape Town, South Africa. I graduated with a BA (Fine Art) from Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2014 and completed my Masters in Visual Art through UNISA in 2021.
I have exhibited my work in various venues and galleries in Cape Town and abroad, including AVA Gallery, Youngblood Gallery, State of the Art Galley , Gallery ONE 11 and Art B Gallery, as well as Casa Petrarca, Figline Valdarno and Studio BONG in Florence, Italy, and at The Small Print Co. in London.
I regularly host cyanotype workshops, as well as other alternative photographic workshops such as Lumen, Phytogram and Polaroid Emulsion Lift workshops.
