Includes all materials (please bring your own apron):
- Cyanotype chemicals
- Fine art paper
- Foam brushes for coating the paper
- Trays
- Glass, boards and clips
- Transparent surfaces to draw or paint on ( tracing paper/acetate)
- Paints and drawing mediums
- UV exposure Unit
- An assortment of negatives
Recommended age: All welcome from 15 years and up.
What you will learn:
During the workshop, you will learn the basics of cyanotype, including how to mix the chemicals, coat the paper, and expose the print.
The focus of this workshop is on using paint and drawing mediums to create cyanotypes. You will learn how to paint and draw on transparent surfaces, and how to use these techniques either in place of or in combination with photographic negatives. You will also discover how to create stunning cyanotype prints on paper using these methods.
This hands-on workshop is perfect for both beginners and experienced artists looking to learn a new skill. You will be provided with the guidance you need to create your own unique cyanotype prints using paint and drawing mediums. By the end of the workshop, you will have a good understanding of the cyanotype process and the ability to create beautiful prints using these methods.You will have the chance to explore your creativity and take home your own unique and beautiful cyanotype prints.
About the facilitatior:
My name is Chloe, nickname ‘Cleo’, and I am a visual artist and workshop instructor living and working in Cape Town, South Africa. I graduated with a BA (Fine Art) from Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2014 and completed my Masters in Visual Art through UNISA in 2021.
I have exhibited my work in various venues and galleries in Cape Town and abroad, including AVA Gallery, Youngblood Gallery, State of the Art Galley , Gallery ONE 11 and Art B Gallery, as well as Casa Petrarca, Figline Valdarno and Studio BONG in Florence, Italy, and at The Small Print Co. in London.
I regularly host cyanotype workshops, as well as other alternative photographic workshops such as Lumen, Phytogram and Polaroid Emulsion Lift workshops.
