SOLD OUT: Encaustic Art Workshops 3, 4 and 5 May

Venue: The Deckle Edge Salt River, 13 Brickfield Road, Cape Town

Join us for workshops where you will learn how to paint with heated encaustic medium that is applied to a natural surface and fused with a heating device. You will discover the world of color pigments and explore the possibilities of integrating this versatile fine art form with other mediums to breathe life into your creative process. 

The Basic One Day Workshop: 09.00 – 16.00 (3 or 4 May 2022) R900 – will cover the following: 

The Basics and Surface Techniques : You will make 4 artworks during the course  

A step-by-step guide that will teach you about the materials, tools, equipment, and how to create a smooth, primed surface with encaustic medium.  You will also learn how to use color pigments and create basic textures.   

You will learn how to apply the following encaustic techniques: Shellac burn effects,  Image transfers, Mark making techniques

 *** You must have attended The Basics workshop on 4 May 2022 in order to do the Integrating workshop.***

The Integrating Workshop: You will make another 4 artworks during the course. 09.00 – 16.00 (5 May 2022) R1 700 for both workshops (two days) – will cover the following:

You will learn how to integrate encaustic with other art mediums such as: Rice paper and ink; Graphite and charcoal powder; Rust; Mark-making; Mixed media collaging

About the facilitator: Presented by Marina Wilbraham. She presents encaustic art classes in Gauteng, Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Stilbaai.  Marina established Encaustry (Pty) Ltd that provides encaustic art supplies in South Africa since 2019.

All Covid protocols will be strictly adhered to and we suggest wearing clothes that can get messy, or an apron.
