Heart of Winter: Ink, Watercolour & Metallic Leaf Workshop (25 July ’26)

In this intuitive, mixed media workshop, you will create expressive botanical paintings inspired by the quiet beauty and atmosphere of winter. Working with ink, watercolour, and metallic leaf, you’ll explore fluid mark-making, soft layering, and delicate detail to capture the essence of winter botanicals. The focus is on mood, contrast, and subtle luminosity – embracing stillness, restraint, and intuitive expression.

What attendees will learn:

  • Paint intuitive botanical forms using ink and watercolour
  • Work with a limited, winter-inspired colour palette
  • Build layers and transparency to create depth and softness
  • Incorporate metallic leaf to add light, contrast, and visual interest
  • Let go of perfection and respond intuitively to the materials

Each participant will leave with their own unique winter-inspired botanical artwork on paper.

Time: 9:00 – 12:30 (3.5 hours)

All materials are provided during the workshop, but remain the property of the instructor:

  • Black and coloured inks
  • Watercolour paints
  • Metallic leaf (gold/copper tones)
  • Brushes and mark-making tools
  • Adhesives for leaf application
  • Containers for water
  • Paper for practice
  • High-quality watercolour paper sheets (A4 & A2)NOTE TO ATTENDEES: Wear old clothing and bring your own apron.

About the facilitatior:

Isabel Crause is a visual artist living and working in Cape Town. She creates original artworks and commissions for private clients, with pieces held in collections worldwide.

Her work explores themes of growth, resilience, and self-expression, often through botanical subject matter and expressive, layered mark-making. Isabel is passionate about sharing her process and helping others unlock their own creative potential.
