Gamblin 16.9 oz. Galkyd
Gamblin 16.9 oz. Galkyd is a fast drying alkyd medium designed to increase flow, transparency and gloss while significantly reducing drying time in oil painting. Its smooth, fluid consistency improves brush movement and levelling, making it ideal for glazing, fine detail and building luminous layers. Galkyd enhances colour saturation and creates a durable, flexible paint film without compromising surface integrity. The 16.9 oz. size is perfect for artists who work regularly in oils and want greater efficiency and control in their layering process.
How to Use
Mix with oil colours
Add a small amount of Gamblin 16.9 oz. Galkyd to your oil paint on the palette and mix thoroughly. Start sparingly and increase gradually to achieve the desired flow and transparency.
Glazing and layering
Use to create smooth, transparent glazes with enhanced depth and subtle gloss. Thin applications can become touch dry within approximately 24 hours depending on colour, thickness and studio conditions.
Improving flow and levelling
Blend into thicker oil colours to reduce brush drag and create more even, fluid strokes.
Fat over lean
Use less medium in initial layers and slightly more in upper layers to maintain flexibility and proper paint film structure.
Tip
Apply in thin layers to avoid surface wrinkling and allow adequate ventilation while working with alkyd mediums. Store medium upside down to prevent skinning over, congealing and solidification.
