KNYSNA: Mixed Media Watercolour Cheetah Workshop with Bev (25 March ’26)
A guided hands on watercolour, graphite and ink workshop aimed at beginners and above guiding you through the initial sketching process using a Matt black graphite pencil, layering with watercolour and lastly adding the ink. You’ll learn the different basic techniques which will enable you to paint simple subjects
What you will learn:
In this class attendees will learn about paper, watercolour, graphite and ink as well as the basics of sketching a cheetah using simple techniques to ensure the proportions are correct. They’ll learn about watercolour washes using a limited palette to build the cheetahs iconic marking as well as shadows. Lastly ink will be added to the background and a few areas of the fur to make your piece pop.
Date: Wednesday, March 25th 2026
Time: 9:00 – 12:30 (3.5 hours)
Place: The Deckle Edge Knysna, 19 Queen Street
Workshop space is limited so booking is essential
Materials supplied for use in the workshop:
- Quin gold by Daniel Smith
- Quinacridone Rose by Daniel Smith
- Yellow Ochre by Winsor & Newton
- Sepia by Winsor & Newton
- Black Matt Staedtler pencil
- Blue caligraphy ink
- Round pointed watercolour brush
- Canson XL Watercolour Paper
- Palettes
- Bottles of water
- Papertowel
Each attendee gets a 10% Deckle shopping coupon for the day and some refreshments.
Student to bring:
Apron, 30cm ruler, a notebook & pen to make notes, any brushes they wish to try out
Recommended age: All welcome from 16 years and up.
About the facilitator:
Bev Barends is a self taught artist working from her home studio in Plettenberg Bay. She specialises in charcoal, graphite and coloured pencils. Bev works mainly on commissions and teaching workshops. She’s passionate about teaching people to draw and find their unique style to start their art journey.
