Part of the Knysna Oyster Festival
This July, The Deckle Edge Knysna is proud to be part of the Knysna Art Walkabout, taking place during the Knysna Oyster Festival. The Art Walkabout is a relaxed, self-guided art route through the Knysna CBD, giving visitors the chance to explore local galleries, creative spaces and art venues at their own pace.
Various venues will be opening their doors to the public to celebrate local and national art, including Art Café on Queen, Proudly Bespoke Art, Old Gaol, Art on Oaks, Village Café, Knysna Fine Art, The Deckle Edge Art Store Knysna, Stormpebbles, Crouse Art and the Turbine Hotel. You can start wherever you like, visit a few venues in one day, or spread the experience out over the festival.
As part of the walkabout, The Deckle Edge Knysna will be hosting a special local artist exhibition celebrating the creativity, talent and artistic spirit of the Garden Route. We will also have our Paint to Win Competition available in-store, which is a free family-friendly activity and a lovely way for both kids and adults to get creative while enjoying the Oyster Festival.
Opening Evening and Art Walkabout Glasses
The official opening of the Knysna Art Walkabout takes place on Friday 3 July from 17:00 to 19:00 at Art Café on Queen. The opening is open to the public, with snacks, wine, entertainment and coffee available.
For the first time, branded Art Walkabout glasses will be available to buy. These glasses will be sold at the opening evening at Art Café on Queen and thereafter from Proudly Bespoke Art on 5 Queen Street. Stock is limited and available on a first come, first serve basis. Visitors who have an official Art Walkabout glass can enjoy a free glass of wine at select galleries, including The Deckle Edge Knysna, so please remember to bring your glass along when you visit us.

Lance Khoury
Lance Khoury is the artist behind our beautiful mermaid mural at The Deckle Edge Knysna. His work has become part of the character of our store and a visual celebration of Knysna’s creative soul, so we are very excited to include his artwork in this local exhibition and share more of his unique style with visitors during the Art Walkabout. Wendy Cornah
Wendy Cornah is a Knysna artist and experienced art teacher who offers adult art courses across a variety of mediums. She studied Fine Art and Commercial Art at Stellenbosch and has exhibited and sold her work through galleries over the years. Wendy continues to enjoy sharing both her love of painting and creativity with others, making her a wonderful addition to our local artist exhibition.
Michele Immelman
Michele Immelman is a Knysna-based artist whose work is inspired by travel, memory, light and the beauty of everyday moments. Working mainly in watercolour and oil, Mich creates paintings and sketchbook studies that reflect a deep connection to place and atmosphere. India has played a special role in her creative life, and her travel sketches capture the people, villages, architecture and fleeting moments she has experienced over more than two decades of travelling there.
Bev Barends
Bev Barends is a self-taught, passionate artist who began her art journey after trying out her late mum’s watercolours in late 2022. What started with watercolour soon led to ink, charcoal, graphite, soft pastel and acrylic. Bev now facilitates workshops in Plettenberg Bay and Knysna, teaches across a variety of mediums and subjects, takes on commissions, and shares her passion through her growing YouTube and Patreon platforms. Her mission is to teach everyone to draw, and she believes that everyone has an artist inside them. Bev is also a finalist in the International Wildlife Competition hosted by Fine Art Gallery, Namibia, for her soft pastel owl.

Justin Lucas
Justin Lucas, known professionally as JUS, is a multidisciplinary artist based in Knysna. Born in Knysna in 1989, Justin obtained his MFA at Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha and works across painting, drawing, sculpture and digital media. His work draws from contemporary subculture, popular imagery and “nerd” culture, including comics, graffiti, gaming, technology and internet imagery. Justin has exhibited at Knysna Fine Art, art.b Gallery in Cape Town, the Athenaeum in Gqeberha and GFI Art Gallery, and his work is held in private national and international collections.
Lesley Blom
After relocating to Knysna and eager to get involved in local creative activities, Lesley Blom owner of the Tiny Art Studio in Knysna embraced drawing with Polychromos oil pencils before moving into oil painting. Her work is currently evolving from an illustrative style into something more abstract. Lesley also creates and distributes greeting cards and prints featuring animals wearing Shweshwe headgear and beaded jewellery, adding a proudly South African and playful character to her creative work.
Paint to Win in Store
Alongside the exhibition, visitors can take part in our FREE Paint to Win Competition in-store using our watercolours. This is a free creative activity for the whole family and a fun way to slow down, paint, play and make something special during the Knysna Oyster Festival. Kids and adults are welcome to join in and stand a chance to win lovely art prizes.
